The Dominicans Missionaries for the Deaf Apostolate purchased a lovely 9 bedroom convent in Madison, IL for deaf and hearing seminarians studying at Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis, MO. On Saturday, August 28, from 1 pm to 6 pm there will be an Open House for everyone to come and visit their new House of Studies for Deaf and Hearing Seminarians.
Father Thomas Coughlin, OP Miss., will offer an outdoor Mass and free BBQ picnic for any Catholic Deaf community members of the Metro St. Louis area at 4 pm at their new House of Studies on 1011 Alton Avenue, Madison, IL. Everyone is invited. (Directions: Cross McKinley Bridge from St. Louis to Rt. 3 to Broadway Ave to Madison Ave and turn right at 10th Street to 1011 Alton Ave at corner of St. Mary's Church.) Bring your beach chairs.
Donated items needed for the new House of Studies
The seminarians need few items for the new house. If you have any good unwanted items in your house (attic, basement, closet, or garage), please donate them to the Dominican Missionaries for the Deaf Apostolate at the Open House event on August 28th. All donated items are tax deductible for your income tax purposes.
What they need the most from you?
Twin bed sheets, pillows, blankets, pillow cases, bed spreads, towels, wash clothes, dining room set (plates, saucer, bowls, tea cups, etc), silverware, glasses, napkins, table cloth, kitchen appliances and equipment (coffee maker, blender, microwave, serving plates, pitchers, pots/pans, baking pans,
etc), small scatter rugs, waste baskets, dish towels, kitchen utensils, TV, rocking chair, reclining chair, couches, dining room table with chairs, table and floor lamps, desk lamps, small tables, folding tables, TV tables, good lawn mower, snow shovels, floor mops, buckets, brooms, vacuum cleaner, ironing board and iron, and/or anything you want to give away. Please do not purchase them. Search your house for unwanted items and donate them to us!
For heavy items such as couch, TV or chairs, etc. they will come to pick them up from you in their van.
